Welcome to the online home of Tangaza Africa Media
Tangaza Africa Media is a well regarded consulting firm specializing in corporate communications, communications strategy/crisis communications consulting, media coaching and training, and other critical elements of media research for public and private organisations. The firm is led by its founder, Professor Nixon Kariithi, who has 25 years experience in business/financial journalism, media management, media research and consulting in Africa and the United States.
Tangaza Africa Media helps organisations improve their corporate reputation through better relations and strategic interactions with the mass media. Since 2001, we have trained hundreds of executives and managers from the leading organisations to become better communicators in the media as well as internal communications channels. Our skills and abilities are drawn from years of practical journalism experience and cutting edge research in corporate reputation management.
Our skills and experiences in media training and research includes active participation in teaching of journalism and media studies in leading tertiary institutions in Africa; executive leadership at a major corporate organisation; involvement in the design of world-class median reputation measurement tools; and research into patterns of corporate reputation in South Africa and beyond. Indeed, Professor Kariithi invented and patented the Media Perception Index™, the world’s first fully-fledged index of media coverage.
Tangaza Africa Media also houses extensive knowledge and skills in media training, including major textbooks in use in communications training institutions in Africa today. Professor Kariithi is also one of Africa’s leading mid-career journalism trainers and has trained hundreds of journalists in 20 African countries. He specialises in business and financial journalism, agriculture-related reporting, and science and technology reporting. Tangaza Africa Media has also conducted ground-breaking research into attitudes/perceptions of science and technology by African journalists.
Tangaza Africa Media’s approach to training is premised upon providing quality knowledge and value based on individual and organisational needs. Our training places great emphasis on understanding the context in which individuals and organisations work, and ensuring that our input remains relevant and appropriate for each specific context. We also believe in interactive learning, driven by practical experiences with different media situations, and critical reflection of an individual’s media performance. The underlying philosophy is that people learn best through participation, experience and reflection. |
